Simon Cowell: 'I was fascinated by Paula Abdul'

Simon Cowell has admitted that he was 'fascinated' by Paula Abdul when they first met in American Idol because she argued with him.

The 51-year-old X Factor boss, who reunited with Abdul for the reality show, said that it was her feisty nature that appealed so much to him.

"I do really like people who disagree with me," he told Redbook. "Probably my best friends in the world are the people I argue with the most, because they don't always say what you want to hear.

"From the minute I met Paula, I was fascinated by her. She's a complex person, but – this is going to sounds very American – she's got a great heart."
